Overview
1996 was the 60th anniversary of the Phantom comic strip. To mark the occasion, every cover of Fantomen featured a 60th anniversary symbol.
21 issues were regular issues of 84 pages, and 5 were expanded issues of 100 pages. This makes 1996 the year with the most pages of Fantomen ever published (2264 pages in total).

Covers
The main cover artist of the year was Rolf Gohs (16 covers). Other cover artists were Hans Lindahl (8 covers) and Christer Thunborg (2 covers).
A symbol to commemorate the Phantom strip's 60th anniversary was placed on every cover. The logo of Fantomen 4 had a gold foil treatment.

Phantom stories
Every issue featured a new Team Fantomen story as main story. The long-running serial The Heart of Darkness ended this year. Sunday stories by Lee Falk and Ray Moore were also serialised chronologically as part of the Phantom's 60th anniversary. Four of the expanded issues featured Team Fantomen stories as back-up, of which one was a new story (the last ever drawn by Jaime Vallvé) and the others were reprints.

Supplements
