La Patrie was a Canadian newspaper that published "The Phantom" daily strip with the title "Le Fantôme" from 1939 to 1957 and Sunday strip from 1939 to 1974.
History
La Patrie was founded in Montreal, Quebec in 1879 and had been publishing in French language. "The Phantom" first appeared in La Patrie on May 28, 1939, at the same time as Sunday strip started in American newspapers. The next day, on May 29, 1939 started daily strips from story "The Mysterious Girl" (the first three weeks of this story were not published). La Patrie became a weekly publication in 1957 and continued publishing Sunday strip to April 21, 1974. Last daily strip was on November 15, 1957. La Patrie is cancelled in 1978.
