O Globo Juvenil
O Globo Juvenil was a comic magazine series published by O Globo and RGE in Brazil.
History
Launched on June 12, 1937 by O Globo newspaper editor in chief Roberto Marinho to compete with Adolfo Aizen's "Suplemento Juvenil", which appeared in 1934. It had several different sections including tales of various genres (detective, adventure, etc.), historical curiosities that kept young readers well informed, fables and proverbs, historical events that happened on the day of publication, patriotic and musical calendars and, of course, classic comic stories among which stood out "The Phantom", "Mandrake the Magician", "Flash Gordon", "Superman", "Lone Ranger", "Alley Oop", "Prince Valiant", and several others who were part of the "Golden Age of Comics".
It started as a three-times-a-week publication, being released every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, in tabloid format, with 16 pages in newspaperprint paper, and the Phantom wasn't appeared in Thursday issues, expect in early period. In total 2051 issues were released between 1937 and 1952. After issue #1986 it gained a new format, more pages and a new name "Novo O Globo Juvenil" but now only with complete stories. With the founding of RGE, 44 more issues were released, until the cancellation of the series in 1954, due to a change in strategy by the company, which decided to give each character its own independent comic series.
