Behind the scenes

  • The original Swedish title of this story, "Bleka dödens minut", translates directly to "Minute of the Pale Death". That is a literal translation of the Swedish title, which in turn is taken from a poem by the Swedish writer Birger Sjöberg. "Bleka dödens minut" was also used in 1987 as the Swedish title of the film "The Princess Bride" which also could be a reason why the title was chosen for a Phantom story two years later. An English translation of Sjöberg's poem uses the title "Death's Hour", which was then also used by Frew for their reprint of this story in English.
  • The text JV-96 on the first page indicates that it is the 96th story drawn by Jaime Vallvé. This practice of indicating the creators by initials and a serial number on the first page is still used on some comic strips produced in Sweden, but was abandoned rather quickly for "The Phantom".
  • Dr Axel is drawn as an African in this story.
