"The Year the Phantom Died" is a 1967 Fratelli Spada story by Germano Ferri.
Plot synopsis
The Phantom has washed up in fishing nets… dead. But as we know, the Phantom is the Man who cannot die and so, not long after his funeral, he reappears to assert himself as the Leader of the Jungle once more. And what’s a leader without Gold? Soon the Phantom is collecting Gold from every tribe in the jungle, it’s like he’s in many places at once! Will the Phantom come to his senses? Will a fight with himself help bring order back to the jungle? The Phantom never was one to Bragg.
