Plot synopsis
In 1188 knight templar Christophe d'Errant returns to France from Jerusalem and takes an oath to protect the poor and opressed, appearing as The Phantom Rider against evildoers. His descendants take the same oath. In 1307 king Philip IV of France decides to strike against the Knight Templars. But the word gets out and Master Carcassone of the Knights Templars gets hold of an old document that was brought from Jerusalem, explaining how an obedient monster of clay can be made alive.

Behind the scenes
- The story codes CR-227/KL-97 in the credits box indicates that it is the 227th story written by Claes Reimerthi and the 97th story drawn by Kari Leppänen. This practice of indicating the creators by initials and a serial number on the first page is still used on some comic strips produced in Sweden, but was abandoned rather quickly for "The Phantom". It only made a brief comeback in 2012.
