Baron Grover is an enemy of The Phantom.

Fictional Character Biography

An aviator during World War I, after the end of the war Baron Grover missed the excitement it brought and so bought a yacht, named the "Shark's Nest", and formed a pirate crew just for the thrill of it. Eventually, after running through his fortune he began taking his pirate career much more seriously by treating it as strictly business, flying a plain black flag in order to reflect this.

Eventually his piracy brings him along the path of the Phantom, after unfortunately tricking the Queen of Suez to investigating his distressed call, which happened to be carrying the Ghost Who Walks. After discovering the Phantom aboard his ship, he takes the Man Who Cannot Die to his island, Grover Island, and offers him to choose his own execution, which the Phantom chooses combat. Baron Grover orders one his henchmen, Big Steve, to fight the Phantom and, after Big Steve loses, organizes a hunt for the Phantom across the island. After the Phantom evades all the hunters, with the the help of Big Steve, he catches up to Baron Grover and forces him to order his men to surrender, and Baron Grover is turned over to naval forces for imprisonment.
