Mark Verheiden (born March 26, 1956) is an American television, movie, and comic book writer.
Biography
His first major comics project was "The American" in 1987, published by Dark Horse Comics. He then co-created "Timecop", which was later filmed based on a script by Verheiden himself.
In 1989–90 he wrote the regular series of DC Comics Phantom comics, following a 4-issue mini-series written by Peter David. Verheiden's stories dealt with real world issues, such as poisoning, illegal weapon trading, racism and toxic dumping. The stories usually took a more psychological approach than the Lee Falk written comic strips. Luke McDonnell was the regular artist.
After that, Verheiden has written comics about popular characters like Superman and Aliens. Verheiden wrote the first solo Aliens and Predator comics, and because of this a character in the Alien vs. Predator film was named after him.
In 2007, he was co-executive producer and writer for the "Battlestar Galactica" TV-series, as well the writer of a feature film with Bruce Campbell called "My Name is Bruce". Verheiden has also contributed to scripts for the movies "The Mask", "Timecop" and the "Smallville" television-show. He was also the co-executive producer of the latter.
