"The Funtum" is a parody of "The Phantom", originally published by Stanford Chaparral (the official publication if the Associated Students of Stanford University) in the May 1956 Crash Comics.
It was credited to "Leo Fink and Real McCoy"; an obvious pun on Lee Falk and Wilson McCoy who was the creative team of "The Phantom" at the time.
