India

The following was written under the heading Behind the scenes:

Donne Avenell sets the adventure somewhere in India. India was originally thought to be the Phantom's home, but before this story was published, Lee Falk had made it resonably clear Phantom country was to be found on the African continent.

The text in the story says (my translation from Swedish):

  • Story pg 2, panel 7: "Chief of the tartars was the legendary Genghis Khan."
  • Story pg 2, panel 8: "In the 1200's, the warriors of Genghis Khan swept over China and looted Beijing."
  • Story pg 3, panel 1: "In the 1400's, it was India's turn."
  • Story pg 3, panel 2: "And descendants of Genghis Khan's warriors still roam the plains below the Misty Mountains and capture wild horses."

This does not mean that The Misty Mountains is in or near India, only that Genghis Khan invaded China and India in his lifetime. The tartars in Bengali are descendants of Khan's warriors, but that does not mean they are located in India (or China). Andreas (talk) 00:24, 18 November 2018 (CET)
