Plot summary
Flash Gordon, The Phantom, and Mandrake the Magician are united by a quest for justice and the coincidence that they are all owned by King Features Syndicate (Neither Lothar nor the youths are included, and The Phantom wields two guns, all unlike the original). The first thing they do is to attack a suspicious looking figure all three at once, taking it in turns to beat him up, while the other two are holding him, before he passes out, the man mentions that he live in the block that they are.
Next, a man comes running to them and tells them that a killer asteroid. The Defenders are consternated by this as they are only the local neighborhood watch association; "the most badass neighborhood watch association on the east side" as the Phantom puts it (wielding his two guns wildly in a cool way and finishing with firing both in the air). Mandrake explains that astroids is "not really our bag", but immedaiately finds a quarter in the mans ear. The man is confused, are they not the Defenders of the Earth? Only part of the Earth, explains Flash Gordon, "if you live at Brennan's Drive [?] between Wells Avenue and Brute 9 W." After the Phantom as fired another shot in the air, the trio runs on to new adventures.
