The Hamburg-based Carlsen Verlag is part of the Swedish media company Bonnier AB based in Stockholm, Sweden. His focus is on comics (mangas), children's books and young adult literature (including Harry Potter).
He is one of the leading publishers in Germany in these areas. Carlsen Verlag was founded on April 25, 1953 by Per Hjald Carlsen in Hamburg, Germany as a subsidiary of the Danish Illustrationsforlaget/PIB.
Initially, the program consisted primarily of books about the Petzibear and his friends, which have already been successfully printed in various German daily newspapers. The first Pixi books have been published in the 10 × 10 cm format since 1954.
