"Temple of the Gods, Part 1: The U-Boat Mystery" is the 213th Phantom daily story. The story was written by Tony DePaul and drawn by George Olesen, Keith Williams and Paul Ryan.

Plot Summary

The Phantom spots some reef divers near Eden who dive at night. The phantom dives underwater to spy on them and finds out that they are after a scroll map inside a German submarine which sank there in 1945. He learns from listening to the divers about a secret society that had been exiled from Egypt came to Eden and created a race of super-men. In 1945 the German sub was sunk by the British when the former were looking for the temple to learn the secret science of creating super-human soldiers. The phantom steals the scroll from a young woman named Mina, who is also the leader of the expedition. He then goes on alone to find temple hidden beneath a mountain. Mina, however, finds her way to the temple through her memory of the map. Once inside, Mina's colleagues start looting all the precious items from the temple. When Mina protests, they knock her out and the Phantom secretly takes her away and hides her. He then overpowers her teammates and takes them and Mina away to the deep woods where Guran uses amnesia drug to wipe the group's memories of the Eden temple, save for Mina whom Phantom takes to the skull cave. Phantom then hands the men over to the Jungle Patrol. He makes Mina stay with him to help understand more about the unknown temple.

The story is then continued in 'Temple of the Gods, Part 2 : Return to Eden'.
