Plot summary

Minerva Brooks from the Ethnographical Museum is in London to oversee the transportation of Bengali antiquities back to Bengali. After a press conference at The National Museum of Foreign Art a member of the museum's board, Lord Whitehaven, speaks with her and explains that the objects should stay in London. He leaves after a few racial slurs about the people of Bengali. One of the objects is a 15th century statue of the Wasaka god Urzuk and curator Darbdyle explains that it has been kept away since it makes museum visitors feel uncomfortable and sometime cries a red fluid.

Lord Whitehaven is in fact leader of a group, The Sons of Albion, responsible for racially motivated bomb attacks against immigrants. The group now intends to stop the transport of antiquities to Bengali. At least 12 members hide in the hold of the ship that transports the antiquities back to Bengali. They hijack the ship when it is on its way off the coast of Cornwall. Miranda Brooks hides in one of the wooden crates. The Sons of Albion load all the crates to a smaller ship and they are taken to an old smuggler's cave near Pendragon House in Cornwall.

The Phantom is actually visiting Pendragon House in Cornwall, where The Walker Foundation now uses the house as a boarding school for deaf children. Late at night three of the school children find a secret passageway to the smuggler's cave below the school and are surprised when they discover that the cave is filled with the wooden crates. Miranda Brooks as well as the children are captured by the men.

The next morning the police are searching for the missing children. The Phantom, who has read in the chronicles about a secret passageway from the school to a smuggler's cave, also finds the cave. In the cave, the Sons of Albion have decided to kill the children and Miss Brooks but the demon god Urzuk, who is now crying blood, makes them feel uncomfortable. When The Phantom enters the cave he uses the likeness between himself and Urzuk to defeat the bad guys.

Continuing her travel back to Bengali, Miranda Brooks wonders about the masked man who has now saved her life for the third time.
