El Mundo was a Puerto Rican newspaper that published "The Phantom" daily and Sunday strip in Spanish language with the title "El Fantasma" in 1980-1985.

History

El Mundo Newspaper (in English "The World") was founded by Romualdo Real on 1919. According to an article written in 1987 by Nelson Gabriel Berríos, on 1926 El Mundo published foreign comic strips (translated to Spanish) for the first time. After 67 years of daily publication, the newspaper closed on 1987. Héctor González bought the newspaper from the Ángel Ramos Foundation and re-opened on 1987, but it lasted only until 1990, the year when the newspaper finally ended its publication. This newspaper published famous Puerto Rican comic strips like "Turey el Taíno" (Turey the Taíno, by Ricardo Álvarez-Rivón), "Tuta y Tita" (Tuta and Tita, by Nadia Martín), and "El Profe" (The Prof. , by Vicente Avilés).
