Durandal is the legendary sword of Roland. It is kept in the Major Treasure Room.

Fictional History

Roland was the most famous of the knights/ Paladins who served Emperor Charlemagne in the 8th century. To keep the emperor safe during his retreat Roland took a stand at the Roncevalles pass and fought till only 60 men remained and blew his oliphant horn to summon Charlemagne only when his friend Oliver also died. When Charlemagne reached the battlefield he found that the only survivor was Count Henri de Cambrai. In appreciation of Henry’s apparent bravery, Charlemagne presented Roland’s legendary sword Durandal to him. The sword continued to be with 'de Cambrai' family till 1187 when Girart de Cambrai presented it to Saladin to save his life and betrayed his own men. From Saladin it came into the possession of the family of Said Bin Maroof who presented it to the 13th Phantom in 1797. The Legend of the Swords, Part 2: Durandal
