The Phantom was a color TV pilot made in 1961 starring Roger Creed (best known for his work as a stuntman for Bob Hope) as the Phantom, with Lon Chaney Jr. and Paulette Goddard as the main villains and Richard Kiel as an assassin called "Big Mike" in supporting roles. The pilot, which never aired anywhere in the world, was called "No Escape", and saw the Phantom trying to break up a slave camp in the jungle. The pilot also featured the Phantom's horse Hero and his wolf Devil, but other supporting characters from the comic, such as Diana Palmer and Guran, never showed up.

Production
The pilot was made on a limited budget and only featured small-budget action. Scriptwriter John Carr originally wrote four episodes, but due to the fact that the pilot was never broadcast, they were never filmed. The TV pilot was once shown at the San Diego Comicon, and is widely bootlegged among Phantom fans.
