Plot summary
The Phantom has just recently succeeded his father and he is now in The Deep Woods, constantly thinking of Diana Palmer back in the United States. He receives a letter from uncle Sid and aunt Bessie with news that their nephew Billy is in trobule.
Stopping at his old university he meets Bob Moore who tells him that Diana is visiting Bermuda with the swimming team. At the train station he reads in a newspaper that Diana has been arrested for attempted currency smuggling when leaving Bermuda.
Diana travelled to Bermuda with the swimming team and with her mother Lily Palmer. During the stay she has been courted by a rich young man in the swimming team, Orrin Falcone. He thinks she is pretty enough but his intention is for Diana to be arrested by the customs when leaving Bermuda, thereby creating a diversion that will allow him to walk through customs with cash in his own luggage.
The Phantom finds out what has happened and makes Orrin Falcone go to the police to confess. When Diana returns from Bermuda the Phantom is waiting for her at the airport. Diana tells him that she never want to see him again.
