Phantom was a German Phantom comic book published by Bastei. A total of 238 issues were published from 1974 to 1983. It was in magazine format printed in black/white/red.

History

The stories came from all of the publishers of Phantom comics that had been active at the time; i.e. daily and Sunday newspaper strip stories, Team Fantomen, Fratelli Spada and Gold Key/King/Charlton stories. However, in many cases Bastei used edited versions of for example newspaper stories and Fratelli Spada stories as they had appeared when reprinted in the Swedish Fantomen comic book.

Eventually, Bastei began to produce their own Phantom stories. Starting from about issue 100 and onwards, most issues included at least one Bastei Phantom story.

The Phantom comic was price-marked on the cover for distribution in West Germany, Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Spain and Switzerland, but whether the issues were actually available in all these countries is unconfirmed. Unsold copies were later glued together with a new outer cover and sold in collections called "Sammelband" (also entitled "Super-Band" albums).
