Mario Caria (1934-2001) was an Italian artist.

Biography

After studying at the School of decorative arts in Roma, his native town, he made his first steps as an illustrator of film sets in the studios "Paradiso and Favalli". Then he drawn covers of polar books and movie stills, as well as several stills for the 1960 Olympics Games. In 1962, he worked for the Nerbini comic series "Avventura West" (covers) and created his one and only own comics in 1963 : "I Fratelli senza paura" (“Brothers without fear”), a western story written by Emilio Fanelli. But his most important work was for the series published by Fratelli Spada of whom he was the most prolific cover artist working. He produced hundreds of covers in the 1960's and 1970's, that appeared not only in Italy but were reprinted in other countries as well. He was renowned for working after a simple description of the action, by phone call of the editor, and been able to capture the full strength of the thrill. With that way of processing, he currently drawn around 40 covers per month... After his Fratelli Spada period, Mario Caria worked for various Italian editors (both books and comic covers as well as television magazines) until the early years of the nineties. Outside that production, he also collaborated with the Dino de Laurentis movies studio in drawing scenery settings for the sets. In 1992, an auction sale of his original works - mainly composed of his Fratelli Spada works - was organized at Christie's offices in Roma, a recognition sign of the value of his outstanding production.
