Plot synopsis
In 1912, the 19th Phantom and his wife Janie have visited France on a late honeymoon. Janie is courted by an officer of the French Foreign Legion, Michel Barque, who refuses to take no for an answer. He has The Phantom thrown overboard, then kidnaps Janie to Casablanca where she is kept prisoner.

Behind the scenes
- When this story was first published, the current was considered to be the 20th in the Phantom line. Thus, his grandfather was referred to as the 18th Phantom and his father as the 19th. This has been changed in later reprints to be consistent with the current Phantom being the 21st, his father the 20th and his grandfather (who was married to Jane Walker) the 19th Phantom.
