Plot synopsis
Makara Hawk, a prisoner at Boomsby prison escapes. In the marshes near the prison he is picked up by two men in a rubber boat. The Phantom calls colonel Worubu who tells him that Hawk claims to be a descendent of the 17th century pirate captain Hawk. The 6th Phantom fought against captain Hawk 1681 in a sea battle outside Sanloi. The 6th Phantom was seriously injured and the pirate captain got away, assumed to have disappeared in a fierce storm. There were however rumours that the captain spent the rest of his life in the village Waatanga on the coast and married a girl there.
The Phantom and Guran ride to Waatanga. The locals meet them and tell them that Makara Hawk and other men came to the village earlier and picked up a seaman's chest from Hawk's house. They are currently staying in a yacht off the village. On the yacht is archaeologist Dr Lee and his daughter Janet, investigating rumours that a 17th century pirate ship can be found on an island off the coast of Bengali. The Phantom swims out to the yacht. After a short fight the Phantom is forced into the cargo hold with Dr Lee while his daughter is kept hostage.
The next day the Phantom, Dr Lee, the ship's cook and the kitchen boy is left in a lifeboat in the middle of the sea. The Phantom manages to tie a rope around a ray (batoidea) who pulls the boat north. Eventually they arrive to Cave Island. A giant whirlpool on the coast line pulls their boat into a strange cave and inside they find captain Hawk's pirate ship. The ship is in good condition and inside they find the captain's pirate treasure.
Meanwhile the crooks have also arrived to the island, digging for the pirate treasure on the shore. The Phantom and the others sail the pirate ship out of the cave, firing the cannons and defeat the bad guys. Dr Lee, Janet, the cook and the kitchen boy sail the ship to Morristown to present it to Bengali authorities. The Phantom jumps the ship and swim to his island Eden.
