*The story was first published in Italy under the title "La donna addormentata" ('''"The Sleeping Woman"'''). However, [[Germano Ferri]] originally wanted the title to be "La bella addormentata" ('''"The Sleeping Beauty"''') to remind of [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sleeping_Beauty the fairy tale of the same name]. The editors disagreed and changed the title. When the story was published in France, it was given the title "La belle au bois dormant" which is the same name as the fairy tale in French. The titles used in Norway and Sweden in 2012 also tranlate to "The Sleeping Beauty", but this title does not remind readers of the fairy tale which has a completely different name in Norwegian and Swedish.

*When the story was made, Fratelli Spada stories were usually 32 pages long, but they decided to change that to 24 pages during the production of this story. For this reason, some pages were combined into one page and therefore contain many more panels than the other pages.

*The version published in 2012 includes additional editing and art provided by Germano Ferri himself.

==Plot summary==
Professor Watson and his daughter that are on an expedition but their plane crashes and they are captured by the Olango tribe. The Phantom hears about this and goes there and saves them. It turns out that a Phantom many years earlier saved and relocated the tribe after an attack by white men clad in metal. Since then the Phantom is the tribe's guardian spirit and its chief ventures out once every 5 years to go to the Skull cave to give thanks to the Phantom. The chief lets the trio leave the village and they decide to go back through caves running through the mountain. Here they find the Elephant's graveyard, the professor wants to take all the ivory and get rich, the Phantom thinks it is a bad idea because it may attract robbers and adventurers so close to the Olango. After some fighting and a third party poacher joins in, both the professor and the Phantom are unconscious, Linda finds bandars that take them to Dr Axel. In the end the graveyard remains a secret and both men recover.

==Plot summary==
[[Lamanda Luaga|President Luaga]] of Bengali has a meeting with [[Dr Aron Cartwright|Dr Cartwright]], member of the political opposition of [[Rodia]]. Dr Cartwright once escaped from a prison camp in Rodia but his wife died in a similar camp and it is unknown what has happended to their daughter Sassie. President Luaga has now agreed to give humanitarian aid to suffering Rodians, the aid to be distributed by the Rodian Liberation Army. President Luaga sign the agreement but do not wish this to be made public since this will put an additional strain on the relationship between Bengali and Rodia.

The Rodian ambassador [[Gabriel Sanders|Sanders]] has agents in the presidential office and ask his best agent, [[Sarah Cartwright|Miss Mist]], to retrieve the agreement. Dr Cartwright is kidnapped and is put on a plane to Rodia. However, due to a thunderstorm the plane crashes on Mount Kumoko near The Deep Woods. After the crash Dr Cartwright save Miss Mist from bleeding to death and discover a very peculiar scar on her stomach — it is his own daughter.

When the Phantom arrive at the crash site, Miss Mist pull her gun but is stopped by Dr Cartwright who address her with her nickname Sassie. The Phantom is taken hostage, tied to a log and thrown into the river. Miss Mist is suffering from a high fever and Dr Cartwright attends to her, telling her how she got the scar and that he is her father. Miss Mist, who grew up in an orphanage since her parents are dead, refuse to believe him. After a Rodian border patrol find them, the Phantom attack the soldiers at night. When a Rodian army officer threaten to shoot Dr Cartwright, Miss Mist realize he is in fact her father and save him.

'''Mark Verheiden''' (born March 26, 1956) is an American television, movie, and comic book writer. As of 2007, he is co-executive producer and writes for the "Battlestar Galactica" TV-series, as well the writer of a feature film with Bruce Campbell called "My Name is Bruce". Verheiden has also contributed to scripts for the movies "The Mask", "Timecop" and the "Smallville" television-show. He was also the co-executive producer of the latter.

His first major comics project was "The American" in 1987, published by Dark Horse Comics. He then co-created "Timecop", which was later filmed based on a script by Verheiden himself.

In 1989–90 he wrote the regular series of [[DC Comics]] [[The Phantom (DC)|Phantom comics]], following a 4-issue [[The Phantom (DC miniseries)|mini-series]] written by [[Peter David]]. In Metropia (once known as New York City), the largest and most powerful of the city-states, the powerful robotics manufacturing corporation Maximum Inc. has slowly shaped a cold, steely urban center, consisting of huge, residential towers intertwined with TubeTrain tunnels. Maximum's robotic "biots" ('''Bi'''ological '''O'''ptical '''T'''ransputer '''S'''ystem) have replaced enormous amounts of human labour, and the corporation is illegally producing prohibited combat biots to form Maximum's personal underground army. Maximum has plans to construct the fortress of Cyberville, an immense survival shelter where only the wealthiest and most elite humans will retreat once Earth finally succumbs to its slowly deteriorating state and Maximum's biot armies take control of Metropia.

The only hope for the survival of humanity is the Ghost Jungle — thousands of square miles of mutated vegetation that may be the planet's salvation. This secret source of life is submerged beneath Metropia where no one is aware of it, but fortunately, college student Kit Walker Jr. is chosen by fate to save the world, donning the black mask and purple suit of his people’s savior, the 24th Phantom.

Phantom 2040, unlike the Ghost Who Walks previous animated outing ''Defenders of the Earth'', is
well liked by many Phans. Debuting in 1994 the series received rave reviews from critics and
audience member alike. It was praised for its intelligent stories and character development, hight
quality animation (especially in action scenes) and subtle teaching of such values as individuality,
freedom and the volatility of humanity.

The series was something of a large departure from Lee Falk's original comics. As with ''DotE'' this was a sci-fi series, not a pure jungle adventure show. However, with the Ghost Jungle, an element of the character's jungle origins was kept. The character designs for the series were the work of Peter Chung, creator of the cult hit anime series ''Æon Flux''. While some Phans liked this stylized design others felt that the
characters, especially that of the Phantom were "too skinny."

The series, while critically successful, only lasted for 33 episodes.

The victims of Earth’s misfortune have been forced to subsist on scavenged refuse from the past on the mangled streets of forlorn city-states.

In Metropia (once known as New York City), the largest and most powerful of the city-states, the powerful robotics manufacturing corporation Maximum Inc. has slowly shaped a cold, steely urban center, consisting of huge, residential towers intertwined with TubeTrain tunnels. Maximum's robotic "biots" ('''Bi'''ological '''O'''ptical '''T'''ransputer '''S'''ystem) have replaced enormous amounts of human labour, and the corporation is illegally producing prohibited combat biots to form Maximum's personal underground army. Maximum has plans to construct the fortress of Cyberville, an immense survival shelter where only the wealthiest and most elite humans will retreat once Earth finally succumbs to its slowly deteriorating state and Maximum's biot armies take control of Metropia.

The only hope for the survival of humanity is the Ghost Jungle — thousands of square miles of mutated vegetation that may be the planet's salvation. This secret source of life is submerged beneath Metropia where no one is aware of it, but fortunately, college student Kit Walker Jr. is chosen by fate to save the world, donning the black mask and purple suit of his people’s savior, the 24th Phantom.

The role of the Phantom has been passed on from father to son since the 1500s, leading the world to believe that the Phantom is a single immortal individual. Kit, the 24th in the line, is young, unsure, and inexperienced, but he finds within him the courage and might to battle the evil that threatens to destroy the Earth.

Phantom 2040, unlike the Ghost Who Walks previous animated outing ''Defenders of the Earth'', is
well liked by many Phans. Debuting in 1994 the series received rave reviews from critics and
audience member alike. It was praised for its intelligent stories and character development, hight
quality animation (especially in action scenes) and subtle teaching of such values as individuality,
freedom and the volatility of humanity.

The series was something of a large departure from Lee Falk's original comics. As with ''DotE'' this was a sci-fi series, not a pure jungle adventure show. However, with the Ghost Jungle, an element of the character's jungle origins was kept. The character designs for the series were the work of Peter Chung, creator of the cult hit anime series ''Æon Flux''. While some Phans liked this stylized design others felt that the
characters, especially that of the Phantom were "too skinny."

The series, while critically successful, only lasted for 33 episodes.

The stories were only loosely based on the TV series, and had a different tone than the dark, complicated animated show. The comic book was written by [[Peter Quinones]], pencilled by [[Steve Ditko]], and inked by [[Bill Reinhold]]. Each issue featured a free poster drawn by such artists as [[John Romita Sr.]].

Many episodes of the series have been released on VHS and DVD, but a definitive collection is yet to come. Journalist Moses Mobele return to work at ''Bengali Bugle'' for the first time in long while with hot news: the disgraced former president [[Kigali Lubanga|Lubanga]] has saved the life of president Luaga's son and is then arrested. After growing pressure on [[Lamanda Luaga|president Luaga]], a court sets Lubanga free. A short time later the newspaper reveal that president Luaga has kept Lubanga locked up in a secret prison in the jungle for many years, without any formal charges or sentence. After mounting political pressure, Luaga announces that he will step down as Bengali's president.

Somewhere in the jungle Lubanga's ''The Voice of God'' has a camp where the rules are very strict and armed guards stop disciples from escaping. Disciples who attempt to escape are tied up and fed to crocodiles. [[The 21st Phantom|The Phantom]] is keeping watch on the camp and discover that it for no apparent reason includes a chemical laboratory. The camp guards capture The Phantom and bring him before their commander, a brainwashed [[Sarah Cartwright]], who tells him that the purpose of the camp is to make soldiers out of the most dedicated disciples and the laboratory manufacture chemical weapons for the upcoming crusade to cleanse the world from infidels. She also decides to have him gassed to death. With the help of the disciple [[Boto of Ossewey|Boto]] and a gas mask, the Phantom survive. The guards dump what they believe is his dead body in lake to be eaten by crocodiles.

Later Lubanga arrive to the camp, declaring that he intends to start a campaign of terror all over Bengali and in the ensuing chaos he will step forward and announce himself to be candidate for the presidency.
