Dogai Singh is sitting in a wheelchair in his seaside palace, listening to an autobiographical recording of his life.
Dogai Singh grew up with his older brother Hahmad in the jungle palace of Lord Anwar Sahak. His brother, although sometimes conceited and selfrighteous, was his role model who once saved him from a poisonous snake. Dogai once got lost in the jungle but was rescued by a mysterious masked forester who brought him back to the palace.
At the age of 16 he went to live with his uncle Kabai Singh, the leader of the Singh Brotherhood. After not having seen his older brother for five years he quickly learns that Hahmad Singh is considered brave but also reckless and impulsive, not fit to succeed Kabai Singh. After Kabai Singh is killed by Sala, a violent struggle for control of the Singh Brotherhood takes place between Hahmad and their cousin Ahmed Singh. Dogai Singh manages to ride both horses, have Ahmed Singh gassed to death and his own brother locked up, thereby gaining control of the Singh Brotherhood himself.
