Countries Template

I believe necessary to delete the name Martinique from the list of countries mentioned in the “Phantom publications by country” template, this island being not an independent country but a French overseas department located in the Caribbean Sea. Furthermore, at least to the best of my knowledge, any native Phantom comic-book has been published there. Alain03 12:57, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

There was something in newspapers. Delboj4 13:17, 14 December 2010 (UTC)

I have also thought of that, but I'm still unable to identify such local newspapers. Somebody could help ? More largely, it however remains a logical matter: if the list ought to be devoted to countries, Martinique has not the same status as the other names...I suggest to omit it, at least until some concrete publishing information might be found. If so, and only then, we would have to cite namely Martinique, either in the French global list with a mention of "special local publication", either under its actual list location.Alain03 05:45, 15 December 2010 (UTC)

There is definitely a problem mentioned here; should only independent countries be listed here? There are several territories around the world that is under ther rule of som country, but have a little kind of independence. I know that the USA has several such territories, as have France and the UK and probably a few other countries. One example that I know of is Puerto Rico, which has a couple of millions of inabitants and has independent internal rule, but otherwise is part of the USA (they voted in 1993 to remain in their current status and not become the 51st State of America). Should such "countries" (or "territories") have a page of their own if they have published "The Phantom"? or should any publication be listed under the country to which it "belong"? Karl MAN 14:05, 21 December 2010 (UTC)

From what is rightly pointed out by Karl, I finally think that the concept of countries is not primordial and that territories having their own powers of autonomy might be listed too, at least when some local Phantom publication is identified. So, in a first time, only “real” countries would be cited within the global list, and in another time, this one could be completed with more "distant territories" when something specific is known to be published there. However, even in the latter case, would not it be useful to name the territories into some kind of brackets in order to distinguish them more clearly and show that we knew they are not similar than “ordinary countries”… ? What seems important is to not adding a flow of territories names when any local Phantom publication is really linked.Alain03 13:06, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

We could put the territories after the real countries in a smaller text like I have done here below with Martinique as a test. Karl MAN 16:34, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
On my PC the difference is hardly visible. I have added another way of showing 'dependencies' (if this is the way we want to categorize them). --MiGi 08:40, 8 January 2011 (UTC)

What's decided about this? Delboj4 14:14, 25 June 2011 (CEST)
Nothing has been decided, the discussion just ended. On the computer that I am currently using, I don't see any difference at all in size, I therefore prefer to the second option if we decide to add dependencies. I am favoring to add dependencies only if they have published something independently (that is, it was only published there and not in the country to which the belong. --Karl MAN 22:35, 16 July 2011 (CEST)
During the fifties the daily Phantom strips were published in a newspapers Barbados, an island country in the Lesser Antilles then a member of the Canadian Confederation and now independent, namely "The Sunday Advocate" (Editor : Advocate Co. at Bridgetown Barbados, Bridgetown, Barbados). So it's need to create a country template. Despite the fact that the title evokes a weekly basis it was published every day. Alain03 16:55, 8 February 2012 (CET)
I've added one way of showing it (including an example if Barbados should start to publish now as an independent country). Should I add it to the template? MiGi 19:03, 8 February 2012 (CET)
I think that shouldn't be Canada in link at all, only mentioned in article. Delboj4 19:16, 8 February 2012 (CET)
So both (in the event that Barbados now starts publishing the Phantom) links should point to the same article? MiGi 19:44, 8 February 2012 (CET)
I think that should be link The Phantom publications in Barbados only, without Canada. Inside article in comment field we could add info about Canada. This is not same case as with former Yugoslavian republics. For example, Egypt was part of Kingdom of Egypt and Sudan and then United Arab Federation, but we have only one article for Egypt. Of course, we can use several flags and different country name in lists. Do you agree? Delboj4 20:05, 8 February 2012 (CET)

Update January 2011

To all: we tried to do an update of the MediaWiki software this weekend but ran into some trouble. We always have a backup of the wiki database stored, so we could restore the Wiki today. However, the last few updates were missing from the back up. This means that the historical 10,000th article is gone with other articles that need to be rewritten. Sorry for that, and a big thanks to all contributors who helped us actually reach 10,000 articles and hopefully will help us do it again (and this time for good!) /Andreas 14:21, 17 January 2011 (UTC) and Brian (administrator)

I have to say I need more details. Are these articles now permanently lost? And if so, is it possible to have a list of which articles are concerned, that in case some of them might be however re-written or at least might received a new version? I am surprised that nobody has responded to this information… but maybe I don’t quite understand what the situation is, and that because of my only basic English? Thanks in advance for your reply Alain03 16:09, 25 January 2011 (UTC)
The only articles and changes that were lost were those who were created on January 14th. There is no list for the articles that could not be restored from the backup, however, I believe that most articles already have been written again by those who had created them.Andreas 16:42, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

Edited stories

In Italia and Brazil some newspaper stories were edited and completely redrawn with new panels added by their local artists. In Italia Nebrini stories (some of them, I am not sure for all) were later redrawn with new panels by Fratelli Spada artists. One or two newspaper stories were remade in L'Avventuroso. However, do we need create separate list for these remake stories? Delboj4 12:59, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

King Comics redrew some stories and those stories have their own articles. Example: Sunday story "Treasure of the Skull Cave" and King Comics story "The Treasure of the Skull Cave". Also, Team Fantomen has made remakes of old stories drawn by Moore and McCoy, they also have their separate articles. If what you are describing is of the magnitude of any of what I have described, then I believe that they should be given their own articles without hesitation, if this is a milder case, then perhaps further discussion is necessary. Karl MAN 17:17, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Hispano Americana

I've started add Spanish Hispano Americana issues http://www.schapter.org/wiki/Category:El_Hombre_Enmascarado_%28Hispano_Americana%29_issues

But I am not sure how we will add links for their other editions http://www.tebeosfera.com/buscador/el%20hombre%20enmascarado/

Maybe year publishing could be difference in links? Delboj4 12:59, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Creating a template for art that does not fit anywhere

There are some art that is neither a panel, nor is it a cover, at least not used as a cover at the image in question. Since it is some form of art, someone should be credited as people are credited in the panel and cover templates. A couple of examples:
Fantomen60logo.jpg,Fantomen Samlarmapp2.jpg, Falk lindahl.jpg, Patrolshirt.jpg.
These images does NOT portray panels nor covers. I therefore propose that a new template should be created for such items. I might add that I at some of the images which might meet my criteria already have used one of the existing template, that is then needed to be corrected if you agree. Is there anyone against or for my proposal? Karl MAN 19:54, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

I too think that there should be a category for 'odd' images like the ones you presented, e.g. 'Miscellaneous art' or 'Other art'.
Should we do a distinction between 'paper printed' (scanned) objects like your first three examples and 'non paper printed' (photographed) ones like your last example? --MiGi 11:14, 22 January 2011 (UTC)
Firstly, I have to point out that what I am asking for here is a TEMPLATE, not a category; there exists already categories in which these images fits: "Covers and illustrations" categories are very broad. If an exess of such images suddenly comes, there might be a need, but I don't really think that it ever will.
Secondly, I think that one template for all other art is sufficient. Karl MAN 21:59, 26 January 2011 (CET)
There has not been any further discussion here, but I have not met any negative response. If no negative response comes within the next week, I will create a new template, Template:MiscArt, for these images. Karl MAN 22:24, 17 February 2011 (CET)

OK, no reply, I take the silence as a yes and will start with the template. 213.115.244.54 13:12, 28 February 2011 (CET)

I have now created a template and started to apply it, firstly at the examples given. I have inserted the template below. It might need some slight changes, but overall, i think it is good. Feel free to make changes if you think it is necessary. Karl MAN 13:30, 28 February 2011 (CET)

Template:MiscArt, something went wrong when I put it up, follow the link instead. Karl MAN 13:32, 28 February 2011 (CET)

New Special page

Have you ever wondered how many contributions your friends have made?
Who have made the most, the last seven days or the last thirty?
Now you have an answer to these questions on the new special page located under "Wiki data and tools" the Contribution scores
— User:Administrator (<font size="1">talk</font>) 15:20, 25 January 2011 (UTC)

THat's a great tool, thanks for adding it, though I and many of the older editors have used several accounts while editing, so totally, we have done more than what is shown. I, for instance, have calculated that I have made another 10 085 edits at other accounts before the login problem was solved. I see no way that a contributor could get that credit added to the account that they are using now, however, I also note that it is only logged-in users that are shown any result. I previously to the time to sum up all the edits that I made with different accounts, putting the result at my personal page, and could therefore see that I have used several IP-addresses, but that I with five of them totally have done more than 7000 edits; some of those accounts would be at a top 10 all revisions list.
I am not greedy for more credit, but I think it would be interesting to see the IP-addresses of those that edited without being logged-in, if it is possible. Because of the log-in problems that was experienced for some time, that might be good. Karl MAN 22:18, 26 January 2011 (CET)

I am well aware of this problem, this is one of the reasons I wanted to do the update to MediaWiki 1.16.1
With this version I can add an extension which enables me to merge users.
I will do some testing and then report my results. After that we can discuss merging obsolete users with current.
Administrator 09:08, 27 January 2011 (CET)

I have now tested to merge a couple of test users I made.
Sadly the extension "merge user" can not achieve what I have hoped. It seems it is more a novel way to delete spammers then merge actual contributors with multiple usernames.
How important is this? I can try to find a solution to "contributions made with several user names" if this is the wish of least a couple of contributors.
If it´s not really important to the majority I will find a better use of my time :-).
Administrator 16:14, 2 february 2011 (CET)

I have just learned that you can add the following to your user page if you so desire:
Number of unique pages I have edited:
Substitute UserName with your username. You can make multiple lines if you have used more than one username
For me it will look like this, Number of unique pages I have edited: 4,383
Administrator 16:16, 17 february 2011 (CET)
Thanks, I will try this at once and see if I could add the different accounts edit into one. I will come back as soon as I have tried. Karl MAN 16:55, 17 February 2011 (CET)
Apparently, It does not work do to so with IP-addresses, which means that I have no easy way of finding that out (The only way is to go to the contributions pages and go through in some cases more than 1,500 edits to see how many unique pages I edited, something I won't do.). I have, however some trouble in understanding exactly how the score is calculated.
The information "Scores are calculated as follows:
      • One (1) point for each unique page edited
      • Square root of (total edits made) - (total unique pages) * 2"
is hard to understand. I would prefer a formula showing how to use edits (e) and page edits (p). The only thing I really understand of the formula is that the score (s) is a number between p and e. Karl MAN 17:24, 17 February 2011 (CET)
I'll add a genuine example: score: s=12, page edited: p=6, total edits: e=16. square root of 16 is 4, 4-6*2=4-12=-8. (16-6*2)=4, square root of 4 is 2. (16-6)*2=10*2=20, square root is between 4 and 5. I have no idea of how they got the score to 12. Please, what is the formula? Karl MAN 17:41, 17 February 2011 (CET)
You get one point for each unique edited page PLUS the sum of that complicated calculation. In your example that would be 6 +((square root of (16-6))*2) = 6 + ((square root of 10) *2) = 6 + (3.16227766*2) = 6 + 6.32455532 = approx. 12 Andreas 21:07, 17 February 2011 (CET)
Thanks! I think then that the second point should be written (Square root of (total edits made) - (total unique pages)) * 2 in order to make it more clear. Karl MAN 22:19, 17 February 2011 (CET)

Since it seems impossible to merge accounts, I have below started upon a Contributions table that will add those together manually and creating a minimum score and unique pages. It will have to be gradually updated though. Karl MAN 15:47, 2 March 2011 (CET)

Now all figures are correct, then I make updates. What do you think, does it need an own page? Karl MAN 15:51, 2 March 2011 (CET)
I have made the identifications based on name similarities below, if two user names does not represent the same user, please correct. Karl MAN 21:48, 2 March 2011 (CET)

Update to MediaWiki 1.16.1

Yesterday the update to the newest version of MediaWiki was done, this time without any problems.

With the update the new default skin of PhantomWiki is Vector, but with some small modifications to make it standout and be - in my opinion- more visual appealing and to give at a PhantomWiki touch.
There are two reasons to change the default to Vector, one is that it is the official skin of MediaWiki and Wikipedia, any changes and improvements will be done to this skin.
By using MediaWikis default skin I can implement these changes and improvements much easier than trying to copy them to another skin.
The second is by using Vector as default any visitor and user familiar with Wikipedia will feel right at home.
For these reasons I strongly encourage all users who now uses other skins to change there default skin to Vector.
Administrator 09:33, 27 January 2011 (CET)

I have taken the liberty to delete all the old unused skins so not to encourage their use by someone new. The only skin remaining is the old default "bookjive" and the current default "vector".

Dynamic/different template needed

When browsing the wiki something struck me as, well not optimal. If a person is alive and well the page states "Death: N/A" That really gives the wrong impression.
I understand that the problem occurs because of the template. An elegant solution would be a dynamic template that doesn't show the row in question if it is not used.
Does anybody know if this can be done?
Administrator 16:45, 31 January 2011 (CET)

I have taken a look at Template:Issuebox, where the lowest row disappears if it is left empty. After some thinking, I have the suspicion that it is caused by the fact that there is no extra stuff added there automatically like at the other places. Due to that, i conclude that it probably cannot be made to disappear. There might, however, be another solution in writing "not yet" instead of N/A, I personally don't really know what N/A stays for, but I get the intended meaning. Karl MAN 13:19, 11 March 2011 (CET)
N/A means "Not Avaliable" or "Not Applicable". It is possible to create dynamic templates, I just don't know how. For example, the Infobox film template on Wikipedia only shows fields if they have any information in them - otherwise that field "disappears". We need something like that here too. Andreas 18:36, 11 March 2011 (CET)

Donations

I have included a donate button in the left sidebar for those who want to contribute money for the cost of the wiki.
The Scandinavian Chapter will pay all costs involved with PhantomWiki but any and all help with this is welcome.

Flag of Spain

In all articles should be corrected Spanish flags based on [1] Delboj4 13:18, 18 February 2011 (CET)

Second spanish republic
Spain under Franco (first)
After reading the important part of the article, I can sum it up as: 1931-1939(40) Second Spanish Republic, In 1940 the next flag was introduced, Spain under Franco (first), 1940-1945, then came Spain under Franco, 1945-1977, and then, January 21, 1977-1981, it was a flag which I don't think is uploaded here, then 1981-present, we have Spain. Hopefully, I have understood it correctly, otherwise, I will make corrections. because I agree with Delboj4. Karl MAN 22:04, 18 February 2011 (CET)
Spain under Franco
Spain (Kingdom of Spain)
However, it will be a big job change all flags. Something similiar there was with Egyptian flags. In fact, all issues categorized as Egyptian were printed in Egypt, but through history country has different names and flags, sometimes also territory (in "federation" with other countries). Delboj4 22:17, 18 February 2011 (CET)
I think it would be good if we decided for which exact periods the different flags should be used and then also upload the missing one. Could we come to an agreement? And also, when an issue was published near a shift, but we don't know the date, what shall we do then? Karl MAN 18:52, 23 February 2011 (CET)

In my opinion the flags should not be changed as the flags serve only as a small illustration of where a comic has been published. Not the history of Spain. For the former purpose the flag should be easily recognizable, the version most can recognize is probably the latest. — User:Administrator (<font size="1">talk</font>) 14:30, 7 March 2011 (CET)

If we changed flags for other countries, for example Yugoslavia, I think that we should change all flags. Delboj4 14:38, 7 March 2011 (CET)

Cite

Cite is a extension that adds two parser hooks to MediaWiki,
The Moon, however, is not so big.

Search tool difficulties

Not very easy to find the article concerning the 1961 tv pilot when using the Wiki search engine. The article is entitled "The Phantom (1961 TV pilot)" and in fact I only found it through Google with the following search demand: “Phantom Tv Pilot 1961”. There, the Schapter Wiki article was placed as the second result. Coming back to the Wiki, and strangely enough, when typing “TV” not any title matches / same failure with “1961 TV” or with “TV 1961” / even not better result with “PHANTOM TV 1961”… And it is finally when just typing «1961 » (something however less precise than the previous entries), that the mention "The Phantom (1961 TV pilot)" appears as the first “Page title matches” entry. Rather unusual but I suppose it is because the words (1961 TV pilot) are either written between brackets or the use of parentheses. Maybe a presentation like "The Phantom / 1961 TV pilot" (separating solidus) would be a easier help for finding the page? Alain03 14:38, 3 March 2011 (CET)

Part One or 1?

There are differences in some articles: story name is Part One or Part 1 and Part Two or Part 2. It must be same in all articles. Similiar problem with a few other stories. Delboj4 13:42, 27 February 2011 (CET)

I agree that we must be able to decide a standard, also if there should be capital letters or not, but why did you start the discussion here? In my opinion, it belongs to PhantomWiki:Bandar Village or at PhantomWiki talk:Style Guide. Karl MAN 10:36, 28 February 2011 (CET)
I had thought that discussion about some story should be separate. Ok, than we can move this to Bandar Village. Delboj4 11:05, 28 February 2011 (CET)

The Set Up

In "Best story" template exists link for story "The Set Up", but what contest should be putted in that link? That story was parted in two, there are links for "The Set Up, Part 1" and "The Set Up, Part 2"? Delboj4 14:07, 4 March 2011 (CET)

Both parts were considered as one story for this vote, like "Curse of the Granite God" in Best story 1992 (Norway). So I guess both parts should be put in the template. Andreas 12:56, 5 March 2011 (CET)
Than it would be the best if you can edit template. Delboj4 13:42, 5 March 2011 (CET)
Done. --MiGi 14:30, 5 March 2011 (CET)
OK, thanks. Delboj4 14:45, 5 March 2011 (CET)

Year or Christmas Albums?

Why Mustanaamio and Fantomet Albums have in the links name Year instead Christmas? Delboj4 22:21, 4 March 2011 (CET)

Most of the Fantomet albums has the word 'Årsalbum' (Year album) on the cover, with (I think) 3 exceptions that has the word 'Julen' (Christmas), along with the year, on the cover. Some of the older swedish ones have 'Julen' on the cover, but nowadays it's mostly only the year itself. But they have always been referred to as 'Julalbum' (Christmas album) for the last 60 years or so. The finnish ones seems to mostly have only the year on the cover. --MiGi 00:48, 5 March 2011 (CET)
OK, thanks for info. Delboj4 09:12, 5 March 2011 (CET)

1st of Team Fantomen stories

First publications of newer Team Fantomen stories usually was in Fantomet issues, sometimes in Frew. I think that all informations should be changed. I am not sure are all informations about Fantomet publication dates completely correct, but they were published before Fantomen issues. Delboj4 22:21, 4 March 2011 (CET)

We have discussed that somewhere else, but I can't find that now. It is true that some TF stories sometimes had the first release date in Norway or Australia. However, they were still produced for Fantomen in Sweden, which is why we kept the Swedish issue as 1st publication. I think that if we look into the matter, Mustanaamio had the first release dates for many years too. So, yes we can change the 1st publication to the issue with the earliest official release date, but it should still be noted that the story was created for Fantomen and the others have translated their version from the original Fantomen version. Andreas 12:56, 5 March 2011 (CET)
Than I don't know. Where put info about that? Delboj4 13:44, 5 March 2011 (CET)
Here is the old discussion, though it isn't much of a discussion. We just acknowledged that some TF stories appear first in other countries, despite the fact that they are produced for Fantomen in Sweden.Andreas 16:12, 5 March 2011 (CET)
I like the way we are doing it now; you always know that you are to look for the first Swedish publication of a Team Fantomen story. Of course, I have to obey to what is decided, however, whatever we finally decide with, I think that we should continue with the way that we have done so far, to create as little confusion as possible, when we finally arrive at a decision and start making the according edits. Karl MAN 15:46, 7 March 2011 (CET)
Yes, maybe that was good, but than must be changed "1st" to something other. Delboj4 15:50, 7 March 2011 (CET)
What about "original publication"? Karl MAN 16:27, 7 March 2011 (CET)
Will we decide what do in this case? Delboj4 22:44, 18 March 2011 (CET)
My opinion is that we keep it as it is, possibly change the template, and that is what I vote for. Karl MAN 18:08, 23 March 2011 (CET)

Image on daily strip articles

What if for each daily story we uploaded the very first strip as an image for the Newspaper box (like I just did for The Slave Market of Mucar) instead of an aleatory panel? Or is it too small?

I think it looks good, as long as we don't get in trouble using a strip with too high resolution. --MiGi 18:13, 6 March 2011 (CET)

I like it also but I think its too small. Maybe the Newspaper box could be changed or the whole article could be rearranged to accommodate a larger image. I like the way the IpComics site does that for each story you have and image of the first strip or page. It’s great for cross-referencing. When I want to find the origins of a story I’m reading I usually go to the IpComics site and by glancing at the first strip I usually solve my doubts. I find this wrong. I should be coming here! After all this is supposed to be the ultimate Phantom reference guide. About the copyright thing maybe we should put a copyright watermark over each image. But remember, we’ve been uploadind cover images for ages and these are also copryrighted material.

The copyright information could be kept at the text that accompanies the file, I don't want nice images to be ruined by copyright watermarks!!! I would prefer if a panel that is relatively representative of the story is used, merely using the first panel may then in at least some cases be a bad idea. In some stories, there are also interesting panels that could be used to illustrate other articles, these might also work good in the story article. I am here remembering an advise from Wikipedia (or was it Seriewikin?) to upload images that could be used in several articles if possible. (P.S. You need to sign your edits in the Bandar Village so that we know who wrote them. Karl MAN 21:41, 6 March 2011 (CET)
I think that would be better continue upload one panel from story, this doesn't look good, as far as I think. Delboj4 21:54, 6 March 2011 (CET)

Fantom-hefte prose stories

Some of Fantom-hefte issues included some short prose stories. I think that we should create new list for them, but where exactly? Delboj4 13:11, 7 March 2011 (CET)

Main page

Maybe the Main Page should have some template boxes at the bottom for Countries, Characters, People, etc... like the MandrakeWiki. It would make it much easier to go to the main articles instead of having to navigate thru all sorts of links to get to an article like we do at the moment. Lothar

Good idea - countries template is added. We don't have templates for those other things, and I don't know if they can be done without becoming too huge? Andreas 00:47, 9 March 2011 (CET)

Templates can be collapsible like in this Beatles article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beatles. So I don't think size would be a problem. Lothar

True, but we have not been able to create collapsible templates here on PhantomWiki. It could be useful, so I would love to see someone create a collapsible template! Andreas 18:33, 11 March 2011 (CET)

Kızılmaske

I am not sure, but I think that we will must rename these articles http://www.schapter.org/wiki/Category:K%C4%B1z%C4%B1lmaske_issues I have made a mistake when once write "serie" instead "series". But in that time I didn't know there were three series. Delboj4 23:33, 10 March 2011 (CET)

I am fine with that, 126 moves to make, plus perhaps a couple of redirects for each that needs to be fixed. I am, however, uncertain what is grammatically correct; isn't it one serie, several series? or what is said in these circumstances? Karl MAN 12:40, 11 March 2011 (CET)
Than I don't know. Someone who is sure about that what is correct should decide. However, we will must create tables for Issue overview. Delboj4 12:44, 11 March 2011 (CET)
This should be correct [2], Series is in singular and plural. I think that we will also must reupload cover with new name and maybe change 1st to First and etc. Delboj4 17:24, 15 April 2011 (CEST)

Fantomets Krønikebok

  • On some web sites Fantomets Krønikebok and Det tjueførste Fantomet issues were categorized as Krønikebok, but on other sites are as separate series. What we should make in this case? I had change some links to Krønikebok, but maybe that's wrong? Delboj4 22:44, 18 March 2011 (CET)

The use of (internal) links

  • There seems to be two schools about how to use links within the text on a page; Use a link only the first time a name (for example) is mentioned or Use a link every time that name is mentioned. I belong to the second. Here's an example on why:
Say you've found the site when searching for The Super-Jet Gang from the outside and you're from Germany, so you scroll down to the german reprints. Then you see the text (+Team Fantomen prologue by Anders Thorell) appended to the title, and wondering what is Team Fantomen? To find that out you must know that you should scroll upp one page to the finnish(!) section and there click on the link (or do a page search or a site search)! Why not have a link on the 'german row'? Okey, now you've found the link to Team Fantomen and checks out the latest stories, say story #856, The Legend of Rahotep, Part 1, and you notice that the artists name is Leppänen. Wonder what else work he's done? Now you have to scroll up pages after pages till you reach #165, and then you can click on the link (or do another search)! Maybe this was an extreme example, but why don't we have links 'everywhere'? Isn't the whole point of markup languages that you're only a click away from more interesting stuff?
If we follow the first school we should remove one link if the artist of a story also did the cover, shouldn't we? ;-)
Anyhow, I think we should be consistent and I vote for number 2. --MiGi 16:15, 20 March 2011 (CET)
I come from the school of "option 1", because I began doing wiki edits on "regular" Wikipedia where the rule is to only link to an article once, or only once per section if it is a long article. But I do see your point, and unlike regular Wikipedia our articles will not have the possibility of being filled with links for every word in an article, because of the subject matter our articles are limited to. So, my gut reaction is "option 1" but I can be convinced that option 2 is the best if others think so... Andreas 18:13, 20 March 2011 (CET)
I think that's option 1 better, but however you want. Delboj4 19:29, 20 March 2011 (CET)
The most extreme example here mentioned is the list of Team Fantomen stories and when looking at it that way I have to tend to agree with option 2. I have previously done option 1, because that how it is done at the regular wikipedia. I am, however, bent on doing option 2, or at least a version of option 2. Previously, had a name been linked more than once in an article, it had usually been "corrected". I propose that we make it a policy to NOT make these "corrections" and also in indexes, particularly an index like the one in Team Fantomen stories, make the creators name be linked always. I think it actually will become easier further on if every name could be linked. Karl MAN 18:37, 23 March 2011 (CET)
I have made changes to the Team Fantomen stories page, all in one go so it's easy to undo if we want to, so we can get a feeling for it before making the final decision. All in all, I think that Karl MAN's suggestion is a good middleway. P.S. Maybe we should split the page into decades or something. It's getting huge! --MiGi 20:24, 23 March 2011 (CET)
It looks really strange now. I think that's not good solution. Delboj4 11:03, 24 March 2011 (CET)
I have no real problem with it, however, one of the reasons that it work practically better this way is that this index has an excess of redlinks, had every story had its own article, you could have gone to that link and gotten the info. Karl MAN 13:11, 24 March 2011 (CET)
What's decided about this? Delboj4 13:52, 10 April 2011 (CEST)

Stickers & Albums

Does anyone have any idea what articles about Sticker Albums should include? We can add articles about these two albums [3] Delboj4 17:53, 22 March 2011 (CET)

The Vault of Missing Men

About the link "The Vault of Missing Men" from [4], contest should be moved to link for story and replaced with new. All links in articles for story with same name changed. Delboj4 21:59, 24 March 2011 (CET)

Done. Karl MAN 19:56, 25 March 2011 (CET)
Ok, but here [5] should be write something new about that, instead redirect link. Delboj4 20:01, 25 March 2011 (CET)
Alright, now I have begun on The Vault of Missing Men. Karl MAN 20:30, 25 March 2011 (CET)

The 28th Phantom

Jedda Walker is destined to become the 28th Phantom and at one point she thinks her father is dead and actually wears the dress. Should not this be enough to make her relevant for the nonexisting 28th Phantom article? Merely explaining that she has acted as the 28th Phantom? She is not like Julie, who never was considered to be the next Phantom, but merely took the chance when it came, and only made a few appearances as the Phantom. No one expected her to be the Phantom permanently, except for a short period when her brother was presumed dead without heir. Jedda on the other hand, has been expected to eventually become the Phantom from the start (Even though I don't like it as the Phantom, in my opinion, ought to be a man so that the natives could continue to believe that it is the same person). Karl MAN 20:13, 25 March 2011 (CET)

Interesting question, I have seen too little of DotE to help make a decision though. But if she took on the role of Phantom as you have mentioned in her article, that is a very strong argument to add her to the list of Phantoms. Andreas 21:42, 26 March 2011 (CET)
My own knowledge of this is hearsay on the Internet's different forums and a youtube tribute to Jedda in which she is seen finding her fathers belt floating in a river and then puts on the Phantom suit and fights with some criminals. The youtube-clip also show things from other episodes, it could be viewed here. I am myself unsure of how to do with this; we could add her like Julie to the template or we could created a new article with the 28th Phantom and then explain that in DotE, Jedda temporarily became that person and is destined do become him when her father dies. There are some futuristic Phantoms that have been portrayed by different creators and are thus different characters, but nevertheless still have the same article. I don't know if we should have one article about the 28th Phantom and one about Jedda; it's a complicated matter. Karl MAN 13:40, 7 April 2011 (CEST)

Kukailomoko

What to do with titles of story "Kukailomoko"? Frew titles are different than titles in list http://www.schapter.org/wiki/Team_Fantomen_stories and second and third parts are published under one title in Frew. Delboj4 16:51, 26 March 2011 (CET)

It seems as if someone has merely translated the Swedish titles to English, when giving them English names, however, considering that part 2 and 3 was published as one, a discussion about what to do in such cases might be in order. (Had we had three English titles, one for each story, I would had have no problem.) Karl MAN 20:31, 26 March 2011 (CET)
Yes, the Team Fantomen story list that I made (originally for Deepwoods) tries to translate the Swedish titles as directly as possible. Frew titles often deviate very much from the original titles. This is a complicated case, but what is clear is that the three parts should each be given their own title (we always follow the original story separations when we create the article, and not later publishers' combining/separation of stories). In this case, we have a Frew title for part 1 and part 2. We could use the direct translation of the Swedish title for the third part. BTW, I don't have the Frew issue in question, so I don't know if part 2 & 3 were actually edited together (i.e. removed title page). Is that the case? If not, was the same title repeated on the title page of part 3? Andreas 21:40, 26 March 2011 (CET)
Yes, we must check that. I will try ask someone who could knows that. Delboj4 23:01, 26 March 2011 (CET)
I've changed informations, there were two titles in Frew 1056. Delboj4 14:28, 28 March 2011 (CEST)

The Rope People (story)

In article about The 19th Phantom [6] I've found link for The Rope People (story). Do we need move contest from article [7] to that link and put new conest? Same thing here [8] for The Golden People, The Children of the Forest, and The Stone Carving People. Delboj4 16:07, 29 March 2011 (CEST)

The False Commendant

Is it correct translated title "The False Commendant" with "e" instead "a" (The False Commandant)? Delboj4 16:13, 29 March 2011 (CEST)

Spesialalbum

About Fantomet Spesialalbum, some links are wiht Fantomet in name, but other without. What should be written in links at all in this case? In some other indexes this series is called Fantomet Spesialalbum. Fantomet Spesialalbum is name printed on covers. One-shots issues are named without Fantomet in name. Delboj4 14:10, 31 March 2011 (CEST)

Julen 1997

In list The Phantom publications in Norway album from 1997 is named as Julen 1997. But maybe this one could be named as Fantomet Christmas Album 1997? Delboj4 14:12, 31 March 2011 (CEST)

I agree, as it is with the swedish counterpart. --MiGi 16:44, 31 March 2011 (CEST)
OK, but will that then stay in one-shots list? Delboj4 16:50, 31 March 2011 (CEST)
It does not seem to have been any more Christmas albums after that, and the Year Album ended in 1988, so it could be described as a One-shot, unless we want to describe it as being the last of the Year Albums. Karl MAN 20:31, 1 April 2011 (CEST)
Can you change those links? Delboj4 12:27, 10 April 2011 (CEST)
Change what links into what links? Has anything been decided? Karl MAN 20:06, 12 April 2011 (CEST)
I am not sure. I've posted a few questions, but almost nothing was decided. Maybe we could add new link for Fantomet Christmas Albums in The Phantom publications in Norway. Delboj4 21:40, 12 April 2011 (CEST)

Newspapers

Do we need new category for newspapers? Delboj4 21:04, 31 March 2011 (CEST)

I'd say yes; there is a difference. It could be a subcategory to Category:Publications. Karl MAN 20:34, 1 April 2011 (CEST)
Can you crate that subcategory? And is it enough only one category, or separate for each country? Delboj4 18:13, 4 April 2011 (CEST)
I have created Category:Newspapers with the first subcategory Category:American newspapers Andreas 21:26, 4 April 2011 (CEST)
OK, but why articles are in Category:Newspapers, Category:Publications, and subcategory Category:American newspapers? These articles could be only in Category:American newspapers. Delboj4 21:58, 4 April 2011 (CEST)
Yes, sorry, if that is how we usually do (subcategories only) then it should be that way for newspapers too. Andreas 23:33, 4 April 2011 (CEST)
OK, all newspapers are categorized now. Delboj4 14:48, 5 April 2011 (CEST)
The “In newpapers” sections begin to be an important part of some “Phantom publications by country“ pages, as for instance in the USA page. But it is not easy to find information about the publishing dates. At the time being, there are several different presentations in the “Period’ column, such as : 1979-? / 19??-19?? / ?-? / ?-sixties-? /  ? - 70's - ? / ?-50's to70's-? / and so on. To indicate years or decade(s) in the middle seems at least a good thing… but which standard presentation can we have when only few or any information is known about the released dates ? I really don’t know what are the best ways to mention periods, apart as far as the decade years is concerned : “50’s” looking better than “fifties” in a small column. Another thing, can we choose to write the name of the specific state of the newspaper in the “Comment” column ? At first sight, the newspaper would appear be more geographically localized…Alain03 17:18, 20 February 2012 (CET)
I think that would be good solution, for example, 19??-? or something like that. That is temporary informations, it's not important how it will looks. About comment field, I think that's not needed more informations about American states, I think that we also should remove some informations from Canadian list. Delboj4 17:30, 20 February 2012 (CET)
And what about a general "Newspapers" page that could retaken all the individual "In newspapers" country sections (it would be a kind of worldwide view for that specific matter...).The original sections would be of course kept in their own "Country Publiactions" pages as usual.Alain03 11:48, 21 February 2012 (CET)
That would be complicated. Delboj4 12:42, 21 February 2012 (CET)
I just thought it will be also a rather too long page...Alain03 13:25, 21 February 2012 (CET)
Yes, I agree, but it would be good if other members can give more suggestions. Delboj4 13:53, 21 February 2012 (CET)

Frew 1407

Only in [9] and [10] edited version of the story "Gullique - The Island of Doom" is linked as "Gullique and the Double Rainbow". Is it needed link? I don't think so. Delboj4 16:30, 1 April 2011 (CEST)

There should only be one article for this story, edited and original version in one and the same.Andreas 17:03, 5 April 2011 (CEST)
OK, I'll add article for this story. Delboj4 17:40, 5 April 2011 (CEST)

Phantom, Environmental Avenger

In Norway is published one story on 6 pages, drawn by Knut Westad. Info from [11] This story could be added in Additional works list in Team Fantomen stories (I am not sure completely), but it doesn't have official title. Which title we will use? Delboj4 17:59, 13 April 2011 (CEST)

Fantasma RGE

About Fantasma(RGE)issues, I think that we don't need this category. Instead that, we could create table. Delboj4 13:09, 14 April 2011 (CEST)

Or both? Table on the main page and a link to Fantasma(RGE)issues? Many of the other brazilian issues have issue overviews presenting the covers. I moved this one because it had so many issues. --MiGi 13:19, 14 April 2011 (CEST)
Yes, it had too many issues, it should do something about that, but I think that we only need table. Fantasma was bimonthly publications to issue #46. We don't have similiar categories for other publications, so I think that category Fantasma(RGE)issues should be removed. Than we could show covers for each years, like some other issue. What do you think? Delboj4 13:34, 14 April 2011 (CEST)
Ah, like the scandinavian ones. I'll make an example later on. --MiGi 17:15, 14 April 2011 (CEST)
Yes, Andreas has made a few examples for Frew also. Delboj4 17:18, 14 April 2011 (CEST)
Really great job, I think it's the best solution to shown these issues. Delboj4 11:20, 15 April 2011 (CEST)

Presidential Palace

What should be linked in this case - Morristown Presidential Palace or only Presidential Palace? There are links for both versions. Delboj4 11:09, 18 April 2011 (CEST)

Greek issues

I've got some help from Greek collector and added some new articles, but do we really need put source template in each issue article or only in main article? It's sometimes boring type captcha code. Delboj4 17:14, 19 April 2011 (CEST)

Orjakaupunki

I think that Finnish album "Orjakaupunki" should be categorized as one-shot issue. In Swedish and Norway there was more issues in series "Samlade Serierariteter" and "Spesialalbum", but after in Finland there wasn't anything more in series, then "Orjakaupunki" is one-shot. Delboj4 20:27, 21 April 2011 (CEST)

Aventures et Mystère

Which name we should use for this series?

  • Aventures et Mystère (avant and après guerre)
  • Aventures et Mystère (before and after war)
  • Aventures et Mystère (First and Second series)
  • Aventures et Mystère (1st and 2nd series)
  • Aventures et Mystère (1938-40 and 1947-1949)

or...? Aventures et Mystère (avant and après guerre) is name usually used in French index, but I will use (1938-40 and 1947-1949). Delboj4 15:46, 29 April 2011 (CEST)

Flag suggestion

I added flags to Fantomen 1/1985 poster to illustrate the diversity of countries that (some) covers have been published in. The flags are linked to the respective country's article. Do you think it looks good and provides useful information? We have done a huge amount of cover articles already, so adding flags to all old articles doesn't have to be a big priority. Andreas 16:04, 20 May 2011 (CEST)

It looks good, but it will be big job add flags to all cover articles. Delboj4 16:32, 20 May 2011 (CEST)
I agree that this looks good, but I don't think we should make it a big priority to update all cover articles (and similar) with flags. Karl MAN 23:01, 13 June 2011 (CEST)

Update to 1.17.0 reverted

As we noticed, a bit late unfortunately, that the update to 1.17.0 done october 8 2011 was not a sucess. I have with the help of our ISP reverted to the last backup they made before the update attempt.
This regretably means that all work on the wiki between october 8 to october 10 is lost.
Next attempt to upgrade the wiki will be done in a totally different fashion. I will notify ahead of time and I will make a backup personally of both files and database. As i have learned, our wiki is now to big to be updated through the easy webinterface I have used before, so I will not use that anymore. I will instead use SSH.
I did make backups of everything last times I updated but that is very tedious and slow work and those times it was unnecessary, so I honestly thought it would be this time too. I am deeply sorry for my mistake and hope you can forgive.

"Anthology Appearance" or "As Backup Title" ?

Which of the above description applies to the following situations:

1) N issues of a magazine is published with each number dedicated to one and only one single character (The Phantom appears only in one issue). Title of the magazine is the name of the character. One-Shot, Anthology or Backup-Title?

2) Same as above but with The Phantom appearing in two or more issues but as the only character of that particular issue). Title of the magazine is the name of the character. Anthology or Backup-Title?

3) Same as 1) and 2) above but the title of the magazine is a more generic title common to all issues. Anthology or Backup-Title?

4) N issues of a magazine is published with each number including two or more different characters. Anthology or Backup-Title?

5) 1 issue of a magazine is published with two or more different characters. Anthology or Backup-Title?

This is a little confusing for me.

I see some discrepancies in the "Phantom Publications in Brazil" article with an equal situation classified differently. Also I would like to add two publications that are missing but I'm not sure how to classify it.

Maybe we could add category In anthology style comics or something like that. I am not sure where should be classified Almanaque do Gibi Nostalgia series. Delboj4 22:51, 29 December 2011 (CET)
I know one/several case(s) where some mixture of 2 and 3 exists: Serie-pocket (same concept published in all Scandinavia). E.g. Serie-pocket (Sweden) seems to be listed as an ordinary magazine in the country template. Perhaps a more thorough thought of some of the classifications is validated. --Karl MAN 21:45, 2 January 2012 (CET)

Update to 1.19.7

I have updated the wiki today from 1.16.1 so that was quite a jump in versions, It is fully functional and works as should even though the sidebar and firstpage look a little strange. I will fix that as soon as possible. Any advice why they do look this way are appreciated. [[User:Administrator|— (talk) 16:51, 19 July 2013 (CEST)

Cover gallery looks terrible http://www.schapter.org/wiki/The_Phantom_%28Frew%29_2013 There were similar problems before with updates. And what is category Pages with broken file links, it was only here before cover scan was uploaded http://www.schapter.org/wiki/K%C4%B1z%C4%B1lmaske_S%C3%BCper_Alb%C3%BCm_57 Delboj4 (talk) 10:25, 20 July 2013 (CEST)

Wiki updated to 1.21.1

Despite some new changes to the skin with this update I didn't anticipated a very succesfull update. I have redone the skin following the guidelines for this update and added some new ones. The skin is now the way I like it, I hope you do too. I have deleted 769 spamusers and merged them into one spam-account. I have also merged all the duplicate accounts we where forced to create a while back to each users main account. This took the user count from somewhere above 850 to 76. --— User:Administrator (talk) 16:11, 25 July 2013 (CEST)

I would like if I could get main account Delboj instead Delboj4. But there are more duplicate accounts, like The Clay Camel and Clay Camel, Kit*walker and Kitwalker, Karl MAN, Karl MAN 3 and Karl MAN 5, Hojo and HojO, possible also Germ and Jerm, IpComics and Ivan. And I don't understand about this http://www.schapter.org/wiki/index.php?title=Category:Pages_with_broken_file_links If I added article first and then later upload cover scan, can't see any reason for this category.
