Plot summary
The Phantom is on his way to Walker's Table. At an undisclosed international airport, the Phantom wearing a trenchcoat saves a young woman, Carolin Benson, from being intimidated by a gangster. Leaving on an airplane, they are seated next to each other and Miss Benson ask him about his rings. The plane is hijacked by a group of gangsters who kill the pilots and then parachute off the plane without making any demands. The Phantom manage to make a controlled landing in the desert.
The Phantom correctly guess that the hijackers were after Carolin Benson. She explains that she has recently inherited a business empire from her father but has received threats from the Gianini gangster family in Chicago who has offered her a business deal that she has refused.
The hijackers have landed nearby and when the airplane do not crash in a fireball they start to investigate. The Phantom ask her to hold on to the Good Mark Ring while he wears the Skull Ring on his left hand. The Phantom quickly deal with two of the gangsters before sunset. Hiding together in the darkness they kiss. At dawn he fights the third gangster and Miss Benson shoot the gangster in the shoulder.
The Phantom walk for hours through the desert to get help. In the hot sun he hallucinates about meeting Guran and the 1st Phantom. A rescue crew arrive and take Miss Benson and the Phantom to a hospital. When she asks for "Walker", the Phantom is already gone but has left a written offer of help if she would ever need it.
