In the year 2006, a total of 26 issues of Fantomen were published.
Overview
2006 was the 70th anniversary of the Phantom comic strip. To mark the occasion, every cover of Fantomen featured a 70th anniversary symbol.
19 issues were regular issues of 72 pages, 6 were expanded issues of 104 pages, and 1 issue was a special 70th anniversary issue of 164 pages with a 20-page supplement. Every issue was on sale for 2 weeks.
The first issue of 2006 was released on December 29, 2005. The corresponding issue of Fantomet was released on December, 2005, and was numbered as the last issue of 2005 instead, thus giving Fantomet a total of 27 issues published in 2005. The corresponding Finnish issue was released first of the three, on December 21, 2005, but was still numbered as the first issue of 2006.

Covers
The main cover artists of the year were Rolf Gohs (10 covers) and Hans Lindahl (9 covers). The Rolf Gohs cover of the 70th anniversary issue featured an old painting in front of a collage of various Phantom comics covers from all over the world. Other cover artists included the team Paul Ryan & Tom Smith (3 covers), the team Felmang & Rudy Walk (3 covers, of which one with Usam), and Bob McLeod (1 cover).
The color of the vertical striped bar along the left side of the cover was changed from purple & black to red & black. A symbol to commemorate the Phantom strip's 70th anniversary was placed on every covers, with small variations during the year.
All issues (except no. 14) also featured 5 different artworks on the first inside cover page, except issue 1 and 5 that had it on page 3. One hadn't been published before.

Phantom stories
17 issues featured new Team Fantomen stories as main stories. The six 104-page expanded issues all featured reprinted daily stories as main stories, with the first daily "The Singh Brotherhood" as the 70th anniversary finale in the last issue. 1 issue featured a new daily story as main story, and 1 issue featured a reprinted Team Fantomen story as main story. The 70th anniversary special featured the biggest variety of Phantom stories ever in a single Fantomen issue: 4 newspaper strip stories, 2 Team Fantomen stories, 1 Fratelli Spada story, 1 Charlton story and 1 DC story. Several reprints of Falk & Barry Sunday stories appeared as back-up stories throughout the year.
