Kit and Heloise and other students are visiting The Museum for Indian Culture in Shymouth. Heloise becomes strangely fascinated by an old indian amulet with a staring face. At night she has a nightmare about a masked indian who shows her a hidden door in the school basement. The next day she, Kit and their friend Danny actually do find a door in the basement that leads to a large cave. Heloise finds a skeleton with a mask that looks like the indian amulet from the museum. They bring the mask back to the school and Heloise keeps it in her dorm room.
At night Heloise has another bad dream that a scary indian comes to her dorm room. The next morning the mask is gone. Heloise tells the teacher Jenkins about the mask, and he believes that it is an old Iroquis ritual mask. The next night Jenkins is murdered in his bed by an indian wearing the mask, and Heloise is taken to the hospital with a high fever. Kit and Danny visit the local museum to learn more about ritual masks from the museum's owner Two Feathers.
When The Phantom arrives he visits the unconscious Heloise at the hospital, learns about the mask they found from Kit and decides to investigate himself.
